You may not know that our church supports a number of 12 step groups in the area. The 12 step organizations serve an important role in our society, and as part of outreach ministry we are grateful to be able to offer them our facilities. As these groups operate on an open door basis, it is very important that they have a consistent place to meet each week. We currently have 8 different groups meeting in our Parish Hall on a weekly basis. Here is a summary of dates and times that these groups meet at our Parish Hall.
As we choose to share our facility with these groups, we have to make sure to respect each other’s rules. Since these groups operate under anonymity, please do not enter the room when they have a meeting in progress. As with Parish Hall usage by church members, it is expected that the 12 step groups will be a zero impact. That is, they need to leave the facility in the same shape as they found it. Some of these groups use our coffee service, but they pay additional fees to compensate the church for the coffee, cups, filters, etc. All 12 step groups make a small donation to the church, based on the size of the group. The church office and the Facilities Council make every effort to prevent any scheduling conflicts between the 12 step groups and church use of the Parish Hall. The church office maintains a parish hall calendar and we have had very few conflicts on parish hall use. If you arrive at the parish hall and encounter a scheduling conflict with a 12 step meeting, please try to work out a compromise with the 12 step meeting leader before their meeting begins. I hope that this article has given you a little more background on our 12 step ministry and the expectations for parish hall use by these groups.
