Christmas Day

All five services will have the same lessons and sermon, and all include Eucharist (Communion, the Lord’s Supper, the Mass). All four Christmas Eve services include the cherished tradition of the congregation singing Silent Night together after Communion. All baptized Christians are invited to receive Communion; you don’t have to be a member of the parish or The Episcopal Church.

The 4pm (with Children’s Choir) and 10pm (with choral prelude) are our largest services, and the church tends to be very, very full, usually standing room only by the time the services begin, so arrive early. The 7pm is full, but there are always seats still available, and the 1pm service is new this year, and we expect there will be plenty of room – and we hope it is a good time for those of you who don’t drive after dark or need to get on the road for your Christmas Eve plans.

Parking in the alley behind the church is reserved for folks with physical mobility issues. You can enter the church through the door in the back wall (it enters into the back hallway, and you follow it around to another door leading to the top of the handicapped accessible ramp), or go around to the handicapped accessible ramp (if you’re in the alley facing the back of the church, it is to your left). There are many parking spots available for everyone along Wool Street. You can also park on the streets, but please remember that this is a residential neighborhood, and don’t block driveways or park on folks’ lawns. Loving your neighbor as yourself begins when you park! There are also free public parking spots and lots on Sutter Street, only a block away, and there’s lots of street parking available at the old school on the corner of Mormon and Decatur, also only a block away. 

The nursery will be open for the 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm services, and children from infants up to age 5 are welcome in the nursery. But if you would prefer, your children are welcome to stay in church with you! We love children, and we don’t mind one bit if they make a little noise or ruckus, or fall asleep during the service. We’re happy they’re here, and want them to know that God loves them and they are most welcome in the house of God!

The address for the church building, if you’re looking for directions, is 803 Figueroa Street. Haven’t been to an Episcopal service before? Don’t worry, the bulletin will tell you what to do and when to do it, and if you’re confused, just watch your neighbor or ask an usher. We promise that folks will want to help you, not judge you; you’re our guest, and you are welcome. Visitors often worry that they will stick out or wear the wrong thing. It’s not possible to stick out at Christmas – there will be a lot of visitors! And worshippers here wear all types of clothing – there are some suits and ties, but most are a bit more casual. We might recommend, though, wearing layers – the church was built a long time ago, and depending on the temperature outside and how full the room is, it can be either a little chilly, or rather warm, or both during the same service!
